Macallan 12 Double Oak
The Macallan distillery sits in the very heart of Scotland's Speyside region, founded back in 1824 by Alexander Reid. The name comes from old Scots Gaelic: "magh" means fertile ground, and "allan" referred to the local stream.
Macallan 12 Double Oak is the entry-level version of Macallan. It's a single malt built from two types of casks, American and European oak, both seasoned with sherry wine. Like most malts made for a wide audience, it's bottled at 40% alcohol.
On the nose: vanilla, citrus, honey.
On the palate: honey, milk chocolate, orange peel.
The finish: medium length and warm, with spice and the sweetness of the wood.
